The landscape that the client would like to see from his room was an important piece of information that should be thought. The land is large (almost 3000 sqm) and corner. The position of the room needed to contemplate the incredible landscape (on the left side there is a view of nature, a mix of mountains with the vegetation of the cerrado). At the same time, the customer also wanted an internal view of the lot (garden, pool, etc).Save this picture!© Edgard CesarSave this picture!Ground floor planSave this picture!© Edgard CesarThe integration between spaces is one of the highlights. It was one of the customer’s requests for a house in which he could receive people very well. Then, the house integrates leisure, balcony and all the social part, when they are with the doors open. And from the bedrooms, once the hallway doors open, also overlook the pool. The house is all white-clad and defined by few traces.Save this picture!© Edgard CesarThe pool was also an important element in which a very interesting resource was used: the pool is winding in the deepest part and has a simpler shape in its outline.Save this picture!© Edgard CesarThe furniture is Brazilian, furniture that the customer can use in their day to day. The house does not have any type of hierarchy, everything is very integrated, to have a more intense use. In this way, the living, the home, the dinner, the porch, everything has a very similar importance within the concept of the house.Save this picture!© Edgard CesarProject gallerySee allShow lessHerzog & de Meuron’s M+ Museum Tops Out in Hong KongArchitecture NewsThe Top Creative Cities and Countries of 2018 According to AirbnbArchitecture News Share 2014 CopyHouses, Houses Interiors•Brazil Area:  560 m² Year Completion year of this architecture project Save this picture!© Edgard Cesar+ 40Curated by Pedro Vada Share Year:  Manufacturers Brands with products used in this architecture project Brazil Architects: Leo Romano Area Area of this architecture project ShareFacebookTwitterPinterestWhatsappMailOrhttps://www.archdaily.com/906161/paes-leme-house-leo-romano Clipboard Paes Leme House / Leo RomanoSave this projectSavePaes Leme House / Leo Romano CopyAbout this officeLeo RomanoOfficeFollow#TagsProjectsBuilt ProjectsSelected ProjectsResidential ArchitectureHousesInterior DesignResidential InteriorsHouse InteriorsBrazilPublished on November 30, 2018Cite: “Paes Leme House / Leo Romano” [Casa Paes Leme / Leo Romano] 30 Nov 2018. GAO: Obama should address health preparedness, food safety

first_img In the interest of pandemic preparedness, DHS should make fuller use of the coordinating councils that were set up to facilitate joint public-private planning for critical infrastructure protection. In addition, the GAO said, the allocation of funds among agencies is skewed: the US Department of Agriculture regulates about 20% of the food supply but gets most of the money for food safety inspections, while the Food and Drug Administration oversees about 80% of the food supply with only 24% of the money. See also: The Homeland Security (DHS) and Health and Human Services (HHS) departments should conduct joint testing and training exercises for pandemic flu to ensure that leadership roles are clearly defined and that leaders can effectively carry out shared responsibilities. Preparedness recommendationsThe GAO makes nine recommendations for improving public health preparedness, all of them drawn from previous GAO reports. Five of these explicitly relate to the threat of a flu pandemic: Congress should pass “comprehensive, uniform, and risk-based food safety legislation.” The Homeland Security Council should set up a process and schedule for updating the national pandemic implementation plan in a way that includes nonfederal stakeholders. Congress should assign the National Academy of Sciences or an expert panel to analyze alternative food safety organizational structures. HHS and DHS should hold more meetings of the states in the five pandemic planning regions to help them address gaps in their planning. “Congress and the executive branch should create the environment needed to look across the activities of individual programs and toward the goals the federal government is trying to achieve,” the statement says. Specifically, the agency says: The GAO said the 13 urgent issues are the centerpiece of a new Web site it launched yesterday in an effort to help smooth the transition to the new administration and Congress. The site includes statements on each of the 13 issues. “GAO has combed through all of our recent work to help identify where our work can help address urgent challenges facing the nation now, to assist new appointees in every agency [to] zero in on the challenges of that particular agency, and to help identify areas with the potential to save the nation billions of dollars.” In addition, the statement says HHS should serve as a clearinghouse to enable states to share information on altered standards of care, for the sake of helping states determine how they will allocate scarce medical resources in a mass-casualty event. The president should reconvene the President’s Council on Food Safety or create another forum in the short term. For the long term, the president should consider other structures to promote interagency coordination on food safety. Nov 7, 2008 (CIDRAP News) – The Government Accountability Office (GAO) has listed public health emergency preparedness and food safety as two of 13 “urgent issues” that will need attention from President-elect Barack Obama and the new Congress next year. The executive branch should develop a “governmentwide performance plan” that provides a cross-agency perspective to help ensure agencies’ goals are complementary and help leaders balance trade-offs in allocating resources. Listing the 13 issues in a press release, Comptroller General Gene Dodaro said, “With the serious challenges related to financial markets and the economy, the financial crisis facing the nation, two wars under way, and the first transition since 9/11 and the creation of a Department of Homeland Security, this is absolutely a unique time. Nov 7 GAO news releasehttp://www.gao.gov/press/press-transition-release2008nov06.pdf In statements released online yesterday, the GAO, Congress’s investigative agency, calls on the government to take several specific steps to strengthen public health preparedness, especially for pandemic influenza, and to improve coordination of food safety efforts. HHS should “expeditiously” complete its guidance to help state and local public health agencies decide how to use limited supplies of antivirals and pandemic vaccines. Sorting out food safety effortsIn its statement on food safety, the GAO reiterates points it has made a number of times about the fragmented federal regulatory system, with 15 different agencies involved in administering food safety laws. This leads to inconsistent oversight and ineffective coordination, undermines strategic planning for food production inspections, and hinders responses to foodborne disease outbreaks, the agency said.last_img read more

Gowalla Follows Foursquare’s Lead with Real-Life Incentives

first_imgWhy Tech Companies Need Simpler Terms of Servic… Tags:#Location#news#NYT#web mike melanson 8 Best WordPress Hosting Solutions on the Market After recent announcements by Foursquare of partnerships with big time players like Zagat, the New York Times and Bravo, Gowalla is fighting back with its own major media partnership. Gowalla and the Travel Channel announced today that the two companies will be working together to offer “the integration of proprietary Travel Channel content into Gowalla’s social networking service.” Along with another deal, Gowalla has started to connect the virtual with the real, a direction we think will be key in succeeding in the location-based app arena.According to a press release, the agreement will begin with tomorrow’s premiere of “Food Wars” on the Travel Channel. In much the same way that Foursquare began offering special badges and information on venues featured in Bravo’s television shows, Gowalla will begin adding new features based on the locations in the show. Here’s the company’s explanation:The first content integration will focus on the new series, Food Wars, a new Travel Channel offering where blindfolded participants choose sides to determine “Who Makes The Best Dish In Town.” Food Wars pits the nation’s most famous culinary rivals against one another for a final showdown, where a blind taste test will settle the debate. Locations used in the series will be integrated into the Gowalla platform and Gowalla users will be able to check in and find specific show information, along with the details of the culinary showdown that was filmed there, pick up Items specific to the show, and be awarded specially created passport stamps. Gowalla also quietly released an Android version of its app this weekend, which is currently available for download in the Android Marketplace. This comes just in time for SXSW Interactive, which is bound to have thousands of techies roaming Gowalla’s hometown of Austin. As the CNET article on the deal points out, Gowalla has led rival Foursquare in the funding realm, with $8.4 million in Series B funding last year. And while we do like the look of Gowalla, Foursquare offers real-life incentives, such as discounts at certain locations for becoming mayor. Well, just in time for the aforementioned SXSW, Gowalla will have some real-life incentives too – Austin’s homegrown Sweet Leaf Tea.Now, the Sweet Leaf deal isn’t quite up to par with a Zagat partnership, but it’s one to keep in mind over the next couple of weeks nonetheless, as you’re wandering Austin’s streets and growing more dehydrated by the moment. (Yes, we know how much beer you really drink.) According to Gowalla’s blog, there will be virtual Sweet Leaf Tea cans around town that will be redeemable for the real thing, so keep an eye out. Gowalla’s first foray into integrating its virtual collectibles with real-life goods came in early January, with its partnership with InCase, a maker of iPhone cases, among other things. As part of that deal, users could collect different InCase-branded virtual items and when they checked in at Apple stores, they had a chance of winning an iPhone case upon checking in. So just by going to a location, you were entering a contest for a real-world prize. And really, it’s this sort of thing that we think will keep apps like Gowalla afloat. Long after the shininess of “checking in” and collecting “virtual goods” for their own sake wears off, real-life incentives will be there. Whether they come in the form of information, as is the case with the Travel Channel deal, or in the form of tasty sweet goodness, as with a can of Sweet Leaf Tea, we’re going to need something more than a virtual beatnik to keep us checking in everywhere we go. And of course, letting our friends know where we are, and vice-versa, is great, but if one company gets into the real-life game and another doesn’t, guess which one we’ll probably be playing.center_img Top Reasons to Go With Managed WordPress Hosting Related Posts A Web Developer’s New Best Friend is the AI Wai…last_img read more

It Will Not be Peaceful For Metta In OKC

James Harden and Metta World Peace will meet again tonight.Tonight will not be so pleasant for Metta World Peace in Oklahoma City.  And he does not plan to make it any easier.Instead of showing remorse about violently elbowing Oklahoma City’s James Harden three weeks ago – an act that earned the Los Angeles Lakers’ forward a seven-game suspension – the former Ron Artest said he will not offer an apologetic handshake to Harden. That only will make the booing he will hear every time he touches the ball. Why won’t he show more contrition?“I don’t shake hands with substitutes,” he said.Harden, who won the league’s Sixth Man of the Year Award last week,  was not fazed. “I’m not worried about him or what he has to say,” Harden said.World Peace told reporters that mebers of the Thunder intentionally ignore the pre-game ritual of players shaking hands as a sign of mutual respect. “I shake everybody’s hand before the game, but Oklahoma City, they don’t shake hands … Kendrick Perkins and now (Russell) Westbrook don’t shake hands either.”Lakers captain Kobe Bryant admitted the OKC fans will use the situation as motivation. “The crowd is obviously going to have a field day with that (World Peace’s return). I’m sure their players will generate some type of energy from it. For us, we just got to keep our poise and do what we do.” read more

Contract Signing for Construction of Police Fire Station for Grand Bahama

first_img Related Items:grand bahama, hurricane francis, hurricane jeanne, Patrick McDonald Construction Company, Police Fire Station Grand Bahama International Airport Will Reopen Today Facebook Twitter Google+LinkedInPinterestWhatsAppGrand Bahamians, in particular, will not soon forget the names “Francis” and “Jeanne”. For too many, the effect of these back-to-back hurricanes remains very present in their lives. For too many, recovery has been long and hard; and for too many, hope has been a tough option. Because of this, my visits to Grand Bahama are taken as occasions to renew hope and to encourage positive attitudes in a people that I know to be among the most resilient of Bahamians. I am, therefore, very pleased to be here to witness this event, which will restore and enhance a work environment befitting this District’s hardworking team.Unfortunately and unexpectedly, in 2004, Hurricanes Francis and Jeanne brought irreparable damage to the landmark metal, pre-fabricated fire station located at East Settlers Way. Officers and staff, I am advised, continue to execute their duties from cramped accommodations in the former Mobile Division Headquarters. The challenges of economy have caused delay of what Government committed to do since 2012. That delay, though, has not translated to denial. Grand Bahama will have a new state-of-the-art Police Fire Station from which officers can serve the population well into the future – and very soon.Today, I am very pleased to witness the execution of a contract in the amount of $6,109,999.75 between the Government of The Bahamas and Patrick McDonald Construction Company to construct the new Police Fire Station for Grand Bahama. The contract period is not to exceed 70 weeks. The terms of the contract is the standard Government Long Form contract with some modifications. The journey toward today began with the invitation of three (3) building contractors located in Freeport, Grand Bahama to submit competitive bids. Initial bids were submitted and publicly opened at the Ministry of Finance Tenders Board Meeting in Nassau on 16th December 2014.A Tender Report was prepared by the Quantity Surveying Firm Veritas Consultants Ltd, and the same was presented to the Tenders Board earlier this year. A recommendation was made to Cabinet for consideration. A decision was subsequently made, and today, we bring to you the product of Cabinet’s decision. The purposed Police Fire Station Project will be designed and built on approximately three (3) acres of relatively flat land at Fairfield East on the corner of Sergeant Major Drive and Settlers Way, East Freeport. The Government of The Bahamas appreciates then kind donation of this land by the Grand Bahama Port Authority. The Station features an 11,660 square foot main Administrative Building, two-storey and masonry structure. The ground floor will house the daily administrative offices for its staff, as well as a reception area with public restrooms. There will also be a police training room, an operator’s office, police locker room, exercise room, day room, dining room, and kitchen. Additionally, there will be a First Aid Room for staff that may fall ill or sustain injury during working hours. The upper floor will house police dormitory for both male and female police officers. There will be eight (8) single bedrooms, two double bedrooms and five bunk beds for male officers. The female officers will be provided housing with four (4) bunk beds, separate bathrooms, changing areas, and showers. A common laundry room will serve all officers.Adjourning the Administrative Building is a single storey masonry fire garage will house four fire trucks and have some support spaces for storage, tools, and lockers. A grease pole will connect the garage to the dormitory level of the main building. There will also be standalone masonry buildings to service the fire trucks and other police vehicles associated with the police fire station.Patrick McDonald Construction Company submitted the lowest and comprehensive bid at tender. We thank the unsuccessful companies that participated in the process. We thank the Royal Bahamas Police Force Fire Branch for your tolerant professionalism. Above all, we thank Grand Bahama for your patience. Hope remains alive and well.ENDHon. Philip E.
